From June 17 to 19, our project's kick-off took place in Harrogate (UK), hosted by our local Associated Partners from the Harrogate Royal Pump Room Museum.
Part of the programme were a talk by principal investigator Astrid Köhler devoted to Harrogate as a European spa town, and workshops devoted to the further cooperation of the research team and the Associated Partners. We visited the Royal Pump Room exhibition, the splendid Valley Gardens and last but not least: the famous Turkish Baths. Harrogate, as most spa towns, is proud of its famous guests, among them such eminent personalities as Karl Marx and Russian Tsarina Alexandra II (Aliks), whose spa itineraries across the continent we intend to map in our project.
